the village of Bargni
Leaving the Adriatic coast, from Fano province of Pesaro and Urbino, follow the old Flaminia road toward the hinterland, road which offers to the visitors an unforgettable show. Following the road, through the uncontaminated nature, you reach a rich of history little and old medieval village:
Bargni.
From the restoration of the old and noble palace of Bargni, surrounded by manor walls, is born
Casa Oliva Hotel Restaurant Residence that overlooks the Metauro Valley.

Casa Oliva – Bargni in this so charming location found his inspiration Cardinal Rannuzzi who in a letter dated 27th August 1683 addressed to the Abbot of Bargni Domenico Federici, wrote:
“I enjoy that your building in Bargni is almost finished: get a room ready for me, where I will sleep with great pleasure, what aren’t these great courtly in Versaille doing, where the building shows the great richness of the king, but also the architects’ low ability”
The astonishment comes out from the words written by the Cardinal, who prefers the little castle to the French magnificence. Stillness and healthy life in touch with the nature that was offering meditation chance and peacefulness, were the reasons that attracted people in this forgotten, but so refined location.

The outside of Casa Oliva today, Bargni, appears still this way: a little pearl where everything looks like at the time of Cardinal Rannuzzi’s stay; all confirms the passing of that great history that has left in the castle well visible signs.
The history began as for all the castles in the Metauro Valley, which main task was the defence of its territory. The seat of the castles government issuing order s all over the territory was Fano.
The towns close to the city were called “Ville”, they hadn’t military importance and they didn’t give shelter to a captain. On the contrary, castles that instead were placed in an important location for the territory defence and on the roads leading to the city, had their military troops. In 1326, the castles under Fano’s control were 37 and under these it was also Bargni that for its strategic position had a determinant role in the defence of the territory of Fano.
